It's no mystery where Project 2025, Donald Trump, JD Vance and Republicans stand on our rights to control our own bodies… even if they're pretending to backpedal in the days leading up to the election.
Donald Trump is openly in favor of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
This illegitimate Supreme Court ruling takes the medical decision making power over our own bodies away from us, and gives it to state governments:
I was able to kill Roe v. Wade… Without me there would be no 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, or whatever is finally agreed to
—Donald Trump on TruthSocial
But this is just the start of the Republicans’ plan to roll back reproductive rights.
The Project 2025 chapter relating to the Department of Health and Human Services, written by Roger Severino (Trump's director of the Office of Civil Rights), goes much further.
It calls for revoking Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of the safe and effective medication mifepristone, which is used in more than half of abortions nationwide.
Abortion pills pose the single greatest threat to unborn children in a post-Roe world… [The] FDA should therefore…reverse its approval of chemical abortion drugs"
— pages 457-458
Project 2025 also says the FDA should also put rules on these safe & effective medications to force patients to get them in person, instead of through the mail like nearly all other prescriptions.
As an interim step, the FDA should immediately… eliminate dangerous tele-abortion and abortion-by-mail distribution.
— page 458
But even this is not enough for them.
The Republican plan is to create a surveillance state for everyone who can become pregnant.
…including proposals to attack contraception access, use the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase “abortion surveillance” and data collection, rescind a Department of Defense policy to “prohibit abortion travel funding,” punish states that require health insurance plans to cover abortion, and retool a law that is currently protecting pregnant women with life-threatening conditions…
Straight from Project 2025's Mandate for Leadership document, page 455:
Because liberal states have now become sanctuaries for abortion tourism, HHS should use every available tool, including the cutting of funds, to ensure that every state reports exactly how many abortions take place within its borders, at what gestational age of the child, for what reason, the mother’s state of residence, and by what method.
Trump has reinforced his strict stance on abortion rights by choosing J.D. Vance as his vice president.
Don't be fooled by mealy-mouthed back-pedaling.
The Vance 2022 campaign website for the Senate stated that he was “100% pro-life." Vance is on record saying that pregnancies resulting from rape should not be viewed as "inconvenient."
Vance has also said,
“There’s something comparable between abortion and slavery… and that while the people who obviously suffer the most are those subjected to it, I think it has this morally distorting effect on the entire society.”
— JD Vance in The Catholic Current (as reported in the Ohio Capital Journal)
He has outwardly changed his tune in recent months, but this isn't backed up by changes in official policy, and this "softening" clearly comes only as a result of growing voter attention on Project 2025.
But this will prove to be temporary marketing only. The official Project 2025 Republican plan is to end the right to abortion, roll back civil rights, vote by mail, safe elections, and election integrity… there's no reason to believe they plan to "lose" an election ever again.
